The Story of Esther

A New Musical

Written and Directed by Victor Eydus

December 5-8

Set in the time of Brezhnev rule in the USSR, The Story of Esther is about teenagers: search for your own self, first love, and suddenly fighting for religious freedom.

A group of amateur actors decides to recreate the biblical Book of Esther. The Soviet authorities consider it political provocation and do everything possible to prevent the performance.

As the ancient story unfolds, the main character, like her Persian twin, discovers her Jewish identity and the link to her people. The life in Leningrad turns out more cruelly than in fairytale Shushan, though...

This is an MA Student Creative Work Project for the School of Theatre & Dance.
