SFSU Graduate Carl Weathers, best known for his role as Apollo Creed, passes away at 76

School of Theatre & Dance alumnus, Carl Weathers, passed away on Thursday, Feb 1, according to reportage from San Diego State University, where he received an MA in Theatre Arts, after first obtaining his BA in Drama at SFSU in 1974.

Weathers, who attended on a Football scholarship and played briefly for the Oakland Raiders, originated the role of Apollo Creed in the Rocky franchise, followed by major roles in The Predator, Happy Gilmore, and Arrested Development. In recent years he appeared in the hit series The Mandalorian as Greef Karga, for which he was nominated for an Emmy.
